An assortment of 1965 American Girls: ash blonde, blonde, brunette and titian

1965 - American Girl

  - This is the second Bendable leg doll (The first was Miss Barbie in 1964)

  - Variety of hair colors - ash blonde, blonde, titian, brunette

  - Pageboy (or 'bob') hairstyle, parted down the middle with bangs

  - Chin length - coarse texture

  -Rooting Pattern: bald in the back of head with just one or two rows on
     bottom

  - Blue irises and eyeliner, slight blush (often fades)

     - Coral finger and toe nail paint (toes may no longer have the orig. paint)

  - Coral lip color - often fades to nude or buttery yellow

  - Full face with gently curved eyebrows

  - Sold dressed in one-piece swimsuit with a multi-colored stripes on the top with aqua on the bottom and aqua open toe heels

  - Other accessories included a gold wire stand, booklet and wrist tag
  - This doll did NOT come with earrings or originally have earring holes!
 
  - Markings: @1958/Mattel,Inc./U.S.Patented/U.S.Pat.Pend. (all indented or 'intaglio')





An assortment of gorgeous long hair American Girls. Notice that some have the coral lips (low color face paint) and others have the high color face paint: light blonde, light blonde, ash blonde, brunette, ash brunette, titian (or cinnamon)

1966 American Girl

  - Bendable legs

  - Hair colors: shades of blonde (light and ash), shades of brunette, and titian (also known as cinnamon to collectors)

  - Hairstyle: same as 1965 except longer length and softer texture (see also: Side-Part American Girl)

  - Rooting Pattern: Entire head is rooted - no bald spot in back

  - Face and nail paint: Same as 1965 except some dolls came with the 'Color Magic' (high color)  paint. That means  heavier blush, heavier eyeliner and geranium (also known as 'raspberry') lipstick and nail paint.

  - Swimsuit and accessories stayed the same as in 1965
  - This doll did NOT come with earrings or originally have earring holes!

  - Markings: same as in 1965 but with raised "Made in Japan" or, later in 1966, all raised markings

'Barbie in Bloom'

Early 1970s Pink Skin American Girl

-This lovely American Girl was sold exclusively in the European market. She was a re-issue of the 1966 American Girl only this version has the 'mod' or 'pink skin' of the mod era Barbie dolls. 

-She was sold in the 'baggie' packaging wearing 'Barbie in Bloom'

-Her body is the 'standard' or straight-leg pink skin Barbie body
