Ponytail and Swirl Curls
1. The original single hard curl
(also called 'single hard roll') on the ponytails #1 - #7 were very stiff. It is
as if Mattel used a spray glue or shellac on the curl!
For
this reason many original ponytails were cut straight across the bottom (since
they were so difficult to comb out).
Here are some examples of ORIGINAL hard curls that were lucky enough to survive through the years. Your ponytail will be re-styled with this same, original hard curl style:

2. The swirl ponytail curl was much less curly. It is more like a slight wave. Note that the hair on the swirl is much shorter, too. Here is an original swirl hairstyle example below:
